The Rio Grande Valley Humane Society currently offers free spay/neuter to all adopted pets. If this is for an adopted pet, please contact our team at info@rgvhs.org
We are excited to announce that we now offer low-cost spay/neuter services to the public. You can register your pet on our website at rgvhs.org/spay-neuter
You can also find local veterinarians on our website at rgvhs.org/community-resources
Neutering your pet eliminates the risk of testicular cancer and other testicular diseases.
Urine marking is greatly reduced, if not eliminated completely, especially if the animal is neutered before sexual maturity.
Spaying an animal before her first heat cycle provides significant protection against mammary cancer.
Spaying eliminates life-threatening uterine infections, as well as uterine and ovarian cancer.
A male animal’s urge to wander in search of a female in heat is the single leading cause of animals being killed by vehicles. Neutered pets do not have the hormones that fuel the urge to wander, so they are far less likely to be injured by automobiles.
Spaying or neutering your pet prevents unwanted litters and helps reduce the homeless pet population.
The RGV Humane Society is only able to provide vaccinations and medications during our monthly low-cost community clinics. These are pre-registration only clinics that are held once a month at the shelter. Every clinic is different, so make sure to check out rgvhs.org/monthly-clinic for more information or to register for the next clinic!
The Rio Grande Valley Humane Society, formally known as the Humane Society of Harlingen, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, no-kill animal shelter located in Harlingen, Texas. We shelter lost and homeless pets and work to reunite them with their owners or match them with loving forever homes.
RGVHS accepts pets brought in through the City of Harlingen Animal Control. We also intake lost and homeless pets from the community on an appointment-only basis. Every year, RGVHS shelters an average of 6,000 pets.
You can make a donation on our website at https://www.rgvhs.org/donate or make a monetary donation at our shelter anytime between 1-5pm.
The Rio Grande Valley Humane Society, formally known as the Humane Society of Harlingen, has proudly been aligned with the no-kill philosophy for more than a year, saving more than 92% of the animals that come into our care annually. Thanks to the support of our community, we have been able to effectively and effeciently match pets with loving forever homes and avoid euthanizing for time or space. You can read more about our no-kill practices on our blog.
